The location was convenient, the place was clean, and the service was polite, if a bit reluctant. But the property felt quite run down, and the TV in my room didn’t work. I think it may have changed hands since the earlier good reviews, and it seems more geared towards permanent lodgers. They’re no longer serving breakfast, despite the signs in the rooms saying they do. There’s also that odd ensuite setup where the shower is in the room itself. The shower head was broken, so I could only use it while holding it.

The rooms are small, but the hosts are very gracious. I stayed here for two weeks in 2005 and checked in straight after a 15-hour journey with two flights. The landlady was so helpful that she made me something from the kitchen even though it was already closed.

It was very basic, and I didn’t feel safe there at all. I had to leave because the room didn’t feel safe for a child.

The staff were very helpful, and for the price this was just what we needed. It’s a 10-minute drive from Gatwick and a short walk to the high street. The room was good. Having the shower cubicle in the bedroom was a bit odd, but I suppose it beats having to use one down the hallway.
