Barholm Accommodation

We had a lovely walk with the dog, around the church and graveyard and then along a loop through the woods. There’s also a good playground at the end of the high street and a corner shop just one road down. Staff were friendly and kept us well informed, so checking in ourselves was easy even with reception closed. The room was clean and warm, with plenty of space for two adults, two children and our dog, and it had its own ensuite. The shared kitchenette was well kept and had two microwaves, two toasters, two kettles and an air fryer, plus plenty of crockery, mugs, glasses and cutlery. Forks were a bit scarce. The fridge setup was simple, with sticky labels and a pen for marking your food. It was fantastic value, and my four-year-old thought staying there was a brilliant adventure. Exactly what we needed on our way to the ferry to Ireland at Cairnryan (Stranraer).

The location worked perfectly for me, close to a nice little pub serving decent food. My room was lovely and the whole place was spotless. The staff were kind, and Panny was especially helpful when my car had problems. He gave me a jump start and called a local mechanic for me. For what you pay, you get a lot, and the value is unusually generous. Hard to beat.

There are some lovely, scenic walks around the area, and the staff were lovely and helpful. It felt more like a hostel, probably best for short stays. The rooms downstairs have a strong dog smell, so that could suit you if you’re travelling with a dog. It was clean and warm, though there wasn’t anywhere to store your things. The stairs are steep, but I understand there are rooms that are easier to access for anyone with limited mobility.

Even with the storm outside, I slept well. The room was clean, tidy and comfortable, and check-in was easy. The utilities downstairs were handy too. Good value and a great place.
