The open log fire and roomy bar and dining area made this a lovely place to settle in. There are local brews on tap alongside the familiar pints, and everything looked very clean and tidy. The locals were friendly, and the bar staff helpful. I only stopped by for a brief afternoon visit, so didn’t stay in a room, but a couple I spoke with said theirs were “just lovely in every way.” It must get busy on weekend evenings. A warm, relaxing, down-to-earth place in a tiny town, and a hidden gem worth visiting.

The room was clean and cosy. What let the place down for me was breakfast: it cost £16.50 on top of the room, and all I got was two eggs, two rashers of bacon, two cheap sausages, toast and coffee. Far too expensive for that.

After a day's walk along the Thames Path, we stopped at the pub to eat. They made us feel very welcome and were happy for us to bring the dog. The meal was excellent, and so was our waitress.

That Sunday lunch made our 100 mile round trip feel completely worthwhile. The pub is beautiful, the staff are friendly and the food was delicious. I only wish we lived across the road instead of 50 miles away.

We ate at the restaurant, not the hotel. The staff were really friendly, and the food was delicious. We both had the sirloin, which was mouth-watering. Highly recommend.
