The food alone would make me come back. Some of the best pub meals we had on two months of travelling in the UK, and the regular menu is excellent. Add the changing cask ales, lively music most weeks and occasional special food nights, and it's a great place to spend time. The pub is more than 500 years old and has been kept in lovely shape. The owners and staff are incredibly charming, friendly and kind. Well worth going into Croscombe for a meal or just a pint.

We finished the evening with a go in the skittle alley, which my husband had spotted, and it was good fun. The Christmas meal, three weeks before Christmas, was fabulous and everything felt just right. Even with so many people to look after, the lovely staff stayed friendly and unflappable, and never made anyone feel rushed. Thanks to the team for making our family evening such a lovely celebration.

It was lovely seeing how much this little village pub means to the locals. It's clearly a hub, with morning newspapers for guests and residents, and locally sourced bread, milk and eggs for sale since there's no village shop. The locals are entertaining, too. Our hosts, Peter and Verenay, were the real stars. They were welcoming and the friendliest hosts I've ever met. They shared fascinating life stories and were just as interested in ours. The room was excellent, with a big comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom with a powerful shower. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. We'll certainly come back, hopefully in summer, when we can enjoy the spectacular outdoor area.

The team made the whole occasion feel relaxed. Service was attentive, everyone was so friendly, and we were hugely impressed with the hospitality and kindness. The buffet was fresh and absolutely delicious, with a great choice of sandwiches to suit everyone's tastes. It was the best selection and quality we've had at a venue. Guests loved the shortbread, calling it the nicest they'd ever tasted, and the carrot cake was amazing. Huge thanks to you all. With our very best wishes, Jess & Liz

The food was delicious, and the place had a really friendly feel. This was a lucky find, well worth visiting, and just what I want from a quintessentially English pub.
