The Carew Arms

I like this pub, and the staff were friendly, but I didn't enjoy the meal. I probably wouldn't come back for food, which is a shame. At £28, I expected the rump steak to be amazing. The first one was so overcooked that I had to send it back, even though I'd asked for it rare. The replacement was better, but still nowhere near worth £28. It's a brilliant pub, just not somewhere I'd choose to eat again.

We came here after the other pubs had stopped serving food, so the meal was a pleasant surprise. The venison from the specials board was tender and cooked perfectly, and my other half enjoyed the lamb just as much. The desserts were unusual but really tasty, and the service was brilliant. Definitely worth a visit.

We only stayed one night for a local wedding, but our room was ready early and spotlessly clean, with plenty of room to get ready comfortably. The extra fleece blanket was a lovely touch, and we had a wonderful night's sleep. Breakfast was worth every penny, with fresh local produce and a huge pot of tea that set us up for the short drive home. The staff gave us a warm, sincere welcome. This is a stunning historic pub, though it's never going to be the Hilton. It's an old building, so the stairs aren't quite level, which adds to its charm. Well done to all the staff, we'd definitely like to return.

The warm chocolate brownie was a highlight of our Sunday lunch at The Carew Arms. The food was excellent, and we felt welcome thanks to the lovely atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff. My partner and I had a wonderful meal and look forward to coming back.
