My four-year-old daughter absolutely loved making her own pizza. They asked which toppings she liked, brought them to the table with a ready-rolled base, and her pizza arrived 15-20 minutes later. She cleared the whole plate, which is unusual for her. I had a lovely 12" pizza with my favourite toppings and a thin base, but I struggled to finish it, so maybe a 9" would have suited me better. My mum had fish and chips, and my wife chose the sirloin steak. We tried the Olive Well on a Thursday at 5.30 for an early booking. It was quiet at first but filled up quickly towards 7/7.30. The food works well for a family meal, drinks are well priced, and the atmosphere is good. Just what Cullompton needs. The only downside was slightly slow service, so maybe they need more staff on busier nights. Portions may be a bit large, though others might like them that way. We’ll go back next time we’re visiting cullompton.

Jan 2022 was a five-star visit for us. We loved that the people from Roberto's were serving the same generous portions of lovely food in a bigger place, at fair prices. I still wish they’d open for lunch, as Cullompton could use more options then. We said we’d be back, and returned in May for a big birthday. That Monday evening was a letdown. We got there just before 6 because the children needed regular meals, had a sharing platter, then waited until 7:40 for our pizzas. By then we were tired and grumpy, and the pizzas weren’t brilliant. They offered more drinks to apologise, but we just wanted our food. We appreciated the care Roberto's put into its food, so I hope they get the larger operation back on track. We’ll try again sometime.

The meal was delicious, though my spinach and ricotta tortellini was very filling and cheesy. A few lighter choices would be welcome. We’d booked ahead as a group, but our starter order was missed and the kitchen went straight to the mains. The staff apologised and handled it well, offering us a round of drinks. Given how large the meals were, skipping starters may have worked out for the best. The Olive Well is a lovely restaurant, though it seemed a little understaffed and the menu could offer more variety. I’d definitely return.

The portions were generous, but by the time the food finally came I’d lost my appetite. My lasagne had no taste, and the rest of our group also found their meals bland. We’d arrived on time for a booking for nine adults and a child, and at first things seemed promising: we were seated quickly, the staff were friendly, and the drinks and starter came promptly. Then we waited two hours for the mains. Three people hadn’t ordered starters and had eaten nothing since arriving. We were told our food would be there in ten minutes, but after fifteen more we had to ask the manager. They apologised and gave us a drink each plus a small reduction on the bill. It was the last evening of our week-long holiday, so it was a shame to end with a meal like that. At least we won’t need to return.

The breakfast rolls were huge and well worth having, and it was handy to be able to eat breakfast on site. The room was great too, with plenty of tea and coffee. It’s a good family-run business, and I got a very polite welcome. Nothing seemed too much trouble. I’d definitely stay again.
