Loch Aweside Forest Cabins

We arrived late, in the dark, and the cabin owner Andrew was lovely and very helpful over the phone, talking us through how to find the place. The cabin itself was fantastic: spacious, warm, clean and well situated near the loch and other scenic spots. There are plenty of walks, and the nearby village has colourful houses and some of the friendliest people around. A short drive gets you to more walking routes, a sea where you can fish, or the castle. If you're after a lodge trip, this is the one. Thanks so much, we'll be back! :)

A hike followed by a soak in the hot tub was a great way to unwind. This is an amazing place, and the owner was easy to reach and sorted out a small issue we had. Perfect.

We loved how quiet and remote it was, with beautiful walks right from the lodges, cycling tracks and great spots for kayaking or paddle boarding. Oban is about an hour away. The trade-off is the location: it’s 13 miles from a main road, reached by a very winding route. Watch out for logging trucks, they drive fearlessly. The bus service is infrequent, with just two buses in the morning and two in the afternoon, and one does a school run. You’ll need your own transport.

I strongly advise against booking this property. After I booked, the host demanded an immediate private bank transfer, which I believe violated Booking.com’s safety policies. I felt pressured to pay outside the platform. When I tried to cancel, the host attempted to charge my card a fee I had already paid in cash. After I refused, I received threatening emails and aggressive messages. The host tried to intimidate me with a supposed full trip charge of more than £740 and blocked my cancellation attempts, which I believe was meant to force me to pay twice. Booking.com intervened to protect me and documented the conduct. This was far beyond a difficult hosting experience, and I found it predatory. For your financial safety and peace of mind, I’d stay away from this property.
