The meal itself was a real highlight. My venison was cooked perfectly, and the others at our table enjoyed their food too. We were a group of 17 and had ordered ahead, but getting settled and ordering wine was frustrating. The waitress showed us into the prepared room, then vanished, so after 15 minutes I went to the bar myself. When the wine finally came, twice what we'd asked for arrived. The manager was having a beer with a friend when we got there and didn't get up to welcome us. We had good company and still made a nice evening of it, but a bit more personal attention would have made it much better.

We were just passing through and hadn't booked ahead, but managed to get a room for the night. The staff were friendly and really helpful, and both dinner and breakfast were very good. Our room was clean and tidy, and I especially liked the powerful shower. We'd happily stay again.

We left before dessert, and the company we travelled with won't be coming back. Six of us ate at the Borrodale Hotel restaurant on Thursday evening, 12th June, and the service made for a very unpleasant experience. One young female staff member was rude, bad-tempered and seemed disaffected, with little attention to us. The food wasn't very good either. Our langoustine starters came without essentials like claw crackers, finger bowls or bread, and the venison was overcooked.

I only stopped in for a drink. The setting was lovely, the staff were pleasant, and the food looked tempting.

We ducked in for coffee while cycling the Hebridean way, to get out of the strong winds. They made us feel welcome, and the hotel felt well cared for. The toilets were great too, always a good sign 😀
