The location is great, but my experience with Neil, the so-called host, was very poor. We stayed for three nights from the end of October 2025 into November 2025. He was polite and helpful on the first day, said nothing was too much trouble and asked us to get in touch if we needed anything. The first two nights were great, but at lunchtime on day three we couldn’t lock the back door. The host lives next door, so I texted and then spoke to him. He promised to come by later, but never did. With open fields behind the cottage and canals nearby, we didn’t feel comfortable leaving it unlocked. I slept downstairs in a small chair. He accused me of being dramatic and a drama queen, saying Braunston was a safe village so there was no issue with the door being unlocked. I left him a handwritten note, but didn’t update his guest book, explaining that I was unhappy he hadn’t visited as promised. After that, I got message after message, including one saying the door was fine, though it wasn’t suitable for two adults. He was very condescending and clearly not used to feedback. Maybe the host is only nice when guests don’t raise concerns or expect an issue to be fixed. Personally, I’d avoid it. If something goes wrong, you might get an angry response or a message about how much guests love him.

The cottage is in a beautiful setting, with lovely gardens, lawns and a view. It’s a short walk to the local pub and takeaways, and it was fantastic for our dog. We had a superb four-night stay and felt so welcome. It was cozy, clean, warm and well appointed. The building was originally a stable, and the history has been preserved and explained in a delightful way. We loved it and will use it for family and friends.

This was our second stay and we love it. The cottage suits two people well, and the host is friendly. It’s centrally located in England, with plenty of places to visit within an hour’s drive.

Beautiful cottage in a picturesque spot, perfect for a peaceful break in the Northants countryside. The owner catered for everything and nothing was too much trouble. I’d recommend it 100%. Magical.

Neil, the owner, was attentive without getting in the way. A great place to stay, with an outstanding view from the front room.
