Breakfast was just as good as dinner, with quality ingredients and the same warm service. Earlier, I’d been welcomed by a young man who offered to help with my luggage, and the room felt homely, clean and nicely decorated, much more comfortable than the larger hotel I’d been staying at nearby. Amber greeted me with a smile, found me a restaurant table and checked in while I ate. The meal was generous, freshly made and nicely presented. It was a relaxing visit, and I came back to a warm room. My first time at this pub was a delight, and I’d recommend it to anyone passing through.

The beer selection is a real draw, with craft options like Ghost Ship and Tribute, and the food is excellent too. It’s an old pub in a historic village, with attentive staff and good parking. It is expensive, but you get what you pay for. I’ve been twice in the past six months.

Had a superb Christmas dinner at The Dunn Cow. The food and service were both great, and the old English pub has a lovely feel, with its wooden and stone floors. One of my favourite spots in the whole region.

The Olde Coach House Inn has a good range of options, and they serve breakfast too, which I’ll have to try next time. We went back for Sunday lunch in Ashby St Ledgers, just off the A361, after a long gap. It was miserable weather, so we didn’t want to travel far and weren’t sure what we’d find. The roast beef was tasty with very little fat, the soft Yorkshires were full of flavour, and the gravy was delicious. The roasted vegetables were good, and there were plenty of fresh vegetables overall. The cauliflower cheese was creamy and especially flavourful. Well worth visiting, and I’d recommend it.

It’s a nice, warm and comfortable place, and the food looked good, though I didn’t try it. It seemed like diners got more attention than people just having drinks. Nobody was behind the bar, and when staff did arrive, they didn’t apologise. The service wasn’t very welcoming, and I thought the beer was overpriced.
