The Kings Head

We made a last minute booking for two nights, with breakfast and a sea view room. The view from the top floor was phenomenal, looking out towards the pier and sea. It was warm, cozy and comfortable, with a clean bathroom and everything we needed. The stairs are steep and winding, so they may not suit anyone with mobility issues, though they were fine for us. Having a kettle and complimentary tea and coffee in the room was a lovely extra. We tried both the cooked and continental breakfasts, and each was excellent with plenty of choice. We’d definitely stay again.

Our weekend B&B stay was comfortable and very enjoyable again. The King's Head is a welcoming pub, with excellent beer and good pub food. Owner Graham and his loyal team put in a lot of work, and the pub clearly deserves the popularity it has with locals and visitors.

Sorry, but the Sunday roast was poor. My chicken and vegetables needed a steak knife, and I couldn’t cut or get a fork into my beef. One potato seemed as if it had been cooked about six times. Our sea view room faced the outside dining area, and it was very basic.

We’d had a couple of disappointing meals at other local places the day before, so our expectations weren’t high. The Kings Head changed that with a great lunch and fantastic service. We ordered roast beef and roast lamb Sunday lunches, and everyone thought they were great value, with excellent food. We hadn’t booked, but the staff squeezed us in when we arrived around midday. I’d thoroughly recommend it for a traditional Sunday roast.
