We nearly arrived to find nowhere to stay, and only avoided that because I happened to speak to a colleague whose son and fiancé had booked the same weekend. My family had rearranged a surprise birthday weekend after COVID restrictions forced us to cancel the original plans, but the alternative dates had apparently been double-booked too. Both families tried messaging, calling and visiting the house, yet heard nothing from the host until my family was told our booking was cancelled. We’re still waiting for any further contact. This has happened before: another colleague arrived for her mini-moon and was able to stay because she got there first, while a different family had to find somewhere else on arrival to the island. I’ve heard of more stories like this, often involving a local family and visitors. Maybe someone assumes the local family can just go home, who knows. It’s especially disappointing during a pandemic, when we had so little to look forward to. I’d be careful booking here.
