The steak pie was incredible, packed with meat and served with excellent chips and rich gravy. The top looked a little burnt in the photo, but what was underneath was mega. We booked a table for food a few hours after stopping in for drinks following our walk up Whernside. Book ahead, as it gets busy at tea time, with so few places serving food in the village. There’s a good choice of cask ales, draught beer and cider.

Danielle arranged an evening meal for us, and the food was cracking. We stayed here during a motorcycle tour of the area, and the location is fabulous (MFN). The staff were friendly and helpful, with nothing feeling like too much trouble. Just what you want from a pub and B&B. I may well come back, though there’s a lot of the UK left to explore. Many thanks, it’s a stunning area.

We had a lovely time here over New Year, with friendly staff and good beer. I left my phone behind one evening, but the pub was closed when we returned. We were leaving the next morning before it opened at 3pm, so a member of staff kindly offered to come in early to return it, and wouldn’t take a reward. I really appreciated that.

The location is great, and the staff, especially Ellie, were welcoming and helpful. Those were about the only bright spots in what was otherwise a huge disappointment. The place needs refurbishment and a proper clean throughout. The bedrooms, bathroom, breakfast teapots and public areas were all really grubby. Good housekeeping could sort a lot of that out. The beds felt like trampolines, the pillows were rock hard, and when we arrived in the late afternoon there wasn’t enough hot water. It stayed hot for only three or four minutes before turning tepid. Food was mediocre at best, though portions were huge. Since it seems to be the only place serving evening food in Dent, there’s a lot of potential here. Such a shame it feels like a third rate place.

The open fire was lovely, the prices very reasonable and the service good. Friendly staff too, especially Danielle, who made us feel welcome. We only tried the bar food, but it was very good and came in generous portions. Excellent pub with good drinks. Thanks for having us!
