The Royal Standard

A cold beer on a hot day and great service. We only stopped in briefly, but it’s a good pub.

There’s entertainment every weekend, with local bands, entertainers and karaoke, and you can get a bite from the changing menu or one of Julie’s proper Sunday roasts. She recently received a five-star food hygiene rating. The beer garden is lovely on the long warm evenings we sometimes get, while the inside has been greatly improved with comfortable seating throughout since Darryl and Julie took over. It’s a proper local pub with a warm welcome, a real community feel and local ales that change every week. Great in summer or winter, and a great local all round.

We went to the Standard on a Wednesday, our first visit since lockdown restrictions eased. Things were very well organised, and we sat out in the beer garden, which I hadn’t known was there. My first pint since last August was a lovely Lacons Legacy.

I’ve been coming to the Royal Standard since I was a child, going with my mum and dad before I turned 18, and I still go quite often now. The staff are kind, the prices are reasonable, and it’s a great atmosphere where everyone seems to get along.
