The Bay Horse Accommodation

We barely slept before 2am because the walls let through every sound from next door. We heard people talking, walking, watching TV and urinating. After midnight, one man came in and blasted music from his TV. He seemed drunk, so I was wary of confronting him in case he got aggressive. I tried calling and texting the staff using the numbers on the out-of-hours notice, but no one answered. In the end I went over myself, and he turned it down without a fuss. Still, managing noisy guests shouldn't fall to other customers. Staff should be available to deal with it. The room was grimy in places, with dust and dirt, especially inside the fridge. The corridor outside had a strange smell, honestly like urine, which made for a poor first impression. The bath drain was blocked, and that felt even more disgusting given the state of the room. The shower head leaked and had to lie in the bath instead of sitting on its mount. We also heard a whining noise from the bathroom, which turned out to be the shower taps, loose and partly hanging off the wall. The bedding felt cheap, and the mattress was uncomfortable. This was the worst accommodation I've ever stayed in. If you're in the area, I'd strongly suggest staying somewhere else.

For the price, the rooms are good value for a short stay. They're a reasonable size and have what you need, though I wouldn't stay more than a few days. There's not much around, but Peppered Pig is only a five-minute walk away and well worth it for a nice meal.

The decor feels dated and shabby, and the cleanliness could be better. They do allow dogs, which is a plus. Next door, the restaurant of the same name is well worth a visit. The Indian food is lovely, the prices are great, and it has a welcoming atmosphere.

Cheap and cheerful, and handy for contractors. Having a fridge, kettle and microwave is a real bonus. Shapla Restaurant is right next door.
