We had lovely weather, and watching the many different birds was amazing. The lodge is attractive and in a lovely area, but it feels a bit tired and could use an upgrade. There were some cleanliness problems too: greasy pans, sticky floors, and windows that seemed not to have been cleaned for a long time, inside or out.

The only thing I couldn't work out was how to turn on the fire, as there were no instructions. Even so, the lodge was warm and cosy, and I'd recommend it if you want somewhere calm. Kestrel lodge is compact but has enough room for 3 to 4 people. It sits with a few similar lodges looking over farmland. I loved watching and hearing the many birds that visit each day, and there was no traffic noise. There's plenty to see nearby. I went to Castle Douglas, Dalbeatties, and Dumfries, where the museum is well worth visiting.

The lodge has everything you need and is laid out well. It sits in a beautiful, peaceful location. A few cosmetic bits could do with some TLC, but I'd definitely come back. Five stars from me.
