This was our best B&B stay in more than 3,000 miles of walking around Britain's coast. Vanessa and Fergus were wonderful, helpful hosts, and the place has been thought through so well. We were grateful to dry our wet gear in the boiler room, and breakfasts were served early so we could get going on our walks. The hosts are keen cyclists and are planning a secure bike store and maintenance area. We had a wonderful three nights at the Auld Kirk, and I don't think you'll be disappointed if you stay.

Kirkbean is a magical spot, with Criffel hill nearby and lovely coast and countryside to explore on foot, by bike or on a drive. Ness runs the beautifully converted church brilliantly, and there's a lovely little pub within easy walking distance. People often pass Dumfries on the M6 heading north or south, but driving west from Gretna opens up a spectacular region that many people don't know about. This is a beautiful place to stay. Get there before it gets too busy, it's something special.

Freshly cooked breakfast set us up well for the day, and the rooms were pretty and clean, all with en suites, comfortable beds and quality bedding. The Auld Kirk is a lovely little B&B, run by a woman who really cares about her guests. Such a lovely stay!

Vanessa was a top-notch host and made both us and our dog Cooper feel completely welcome. Breakfast was delicious and everything was good quality. We slept really well in this lovely old building, full of charm, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Fantastic hospitality in a lovely area.

We were lucky enough to be the first guests at The Auld Kirk, and it was such a lovely stay. Vanessa made us feel at home, and breakfast was delicious, especially the rarebit. The James Craik room has a boutique feel, with tea, coffee and homemade shortbread waiting for us. The old church has been renovated beautifully. It still has loads of its original character, alongside modern touches like the large bathroom and walk-in shower. The bed was cosy, WiFi was good, and the setting is gorgeous. Fergus the dog was a bonus too. It’s a great base for the area. We’d recommend The Steamboat Pub for a drink by the sea, a walk up Criffel, and 7Stanes.
