The Auldgirth Inn

We were so impressed by lunch, especially the warm, attentive welcome. The ham terrine and mussels were both tasty starters, and the game sausages with mash and braised beef were beautifully cooked, well seasoned and satisfying. I wish we'd had room for pudding! The room was warm and cosy. The bill came to just £55, including two soft drinks each. We'll definitely return, and I can't recommend it enough.

The room was spacious and immaculate, and the robes were a lovely little surprise for lounging in after all that food. The atmosphere made for relaxed fine dining, and I hope to come back soon and hear some piano. The staff and chefs made sure my dietary needs were no problem. They checked that the tasting menu was suitable during pregnancy and adjusted anything I couldn't have, which I really appreciated. I would have been so jealous to miss out otherwise. From our welcome through checkout, the service was perfect. Dinner was delicious, and the full Scottish breakfast the next morning was included in the affordable room rate. Its ingredients were just as carefully chosen and excellent as the ones at dinner. Thanks to the hostess, serving team and chefs for making us feel welcome and making the stay so enjoyable. We'll definitely be back.

We sat in the dog-friendly section, and everyone on staff was welcoming and really friendly. The food was totally exceptional, and there were lovely wine options at reasonable prices. We'll definitely return for the tasting menu.

The chefs made the meal feel unique and memorable, especially the taster menu, which I'd absolutely try if you're visiting. The food was incredible, and the service was excellent. For such distinctive, high-quality cooking, the prices were reasonable. Highly recommended if you're around Dumfries.
