Apartment at Morningside Hotel

We were exhausted, hungry and thirsty after a roughly four-and-a-half-hour drive, and this stay was a terrible experience. I booked two rooms at £90 a night each. It was August and around 35 degrees, but there was no bar open and no way to get a cold drink. The man who let us in had been painting outside moments earlier and said there'd be no staff until the next day. When I asked for a fan for my brother's room, he refused because of energy bills and told us to go to a Travelodge if we wanted different facilities. We are OAPs. There were no biscuits with the tea and coffee, no bath mat and not enough toiletries. The website showed people having afternoon tea, but none was available. My brother and I had to go to a restaurant for food and drinks. There was no proper lounge, just a dark room, and the conservatory had a ladder in it while a bike leaned against the bar. When I asked about breakfast times, the man who booked us in said 9, and when I asked until when, he said 9, so there was no flexibility. We had a terrible night. We only saw a couple the next morning at 8:30, still no staff, and there was no sign of breakfast or tables set up. We left without breakfast, though we had booked two nights for £180. I explained things to the owner, whom we saw only when paying, but he wasn't interested. I posted a review on TripAdvisor at the time. Disgusted.

The room was an ideal size and had a bar, but the food was disappointing for what my brother and I paid. We paid a deposit at the beginning of October, then the rest after the occasion. It was a bittersweet day with lots of sad and happy memories. We did our mum proud by holding her wake here, as it had been her dying wish. She died in November 2020, but covid meant we couldn't have the wake then. She had a good send-off, and I'm sure she was raising a glass in heaven. God bless you, Mum.

On a bright, sunny Sunday morning, the sea views were spectacular. Ann and Paul were great hosts, and the hotel's location was excellent. If you order breakfast, ask for her famous scrambled eggs. I can't recommend the place enough and will definitely return soon.

The rooms were exceptionally clean, the staff friendly, and the sea views were the best I've seen in a long time. Don't miss breakfast here, it's the best anyone could offer. A budget-friendly hotel with a great view, stay and breakfast.
