The accommodation itself was lovely, but the stay was a very strange experience. I'd save your money. The host was very particular about lots of things, and I felt like an untrustworthy teenager instead of a welcome guest. There was an intense introduction of about 45 minutes, just when I was exhausted and wanted to relax. I was told not to use the lamp light switches, eat in the room despite a biscuit being there, heat food, touch the heating controls, or use the fridge for food. The front door locking system and room ventilation were also explained in detail. My company had booked the room, and I hadn't known the latest check-in was 8pm. The owner said he wanted to go to bed and asked me to call my partner to find out how long he'd be. We also had a disagreement about breakfast. I'd confirmed 8:30am, changing it from 8:15 to let him get up later, but at 8:20 he knocked abruptly and asked, "I take it you're not having breakfast then", insisting we'd agreed on a different time. I found that rude and patronising and left early without breakfast because I didn't want to stay any longer. We were charged an extra £15 for my partner to join me. I assumed it covered breakfast, though we didn't stay for that after the host's rudeness.

Tricia and Stan were great hosts, and made a lovely breakfast that catered for my gluten intolerance. We stayed one night for a wedding nearby. The house was very pretty, and our room was clean, modern and beautifully decorated. The bed was really comfortable, so we slept wonderfully. We'd love to return if we're in the area.

The owners did everything they could to make sure we had a fabulous stay. The guest house was spotless, and our room had thoughtful extras: underfloor bathroom heating, luxury toiletries, a super comfy bed, a big TV, tea and coffee, fresh milk and filtered water. Breakfast was freshly cooked, with fruit, croissants, toast, hot drinks and orange juice. And there are two super friendly cats ❤️

Trisha and Stan made us feel very welcome. Our room was modern and spotless, and breakfast was excellent in a relaxed setting. We also enjoyed a two mile walk around the village, through fields and along lanes, meeting friendly people on the way. We'll be visiting Braintree two or three times next year, and already know where we'll stay.

We found Laurels BnB on bookings.com at the last minute after a long day out in Essex, when we needed somewhere comfortable for the night. Within seconds of finding it, I knew I wanted to stay, and I'm so glad we did. Stan and Tricia are such a friendly, welcoming couple, and they made it feel special. The home was immaculate and had everything we needed: cosy modern rooms, lovely decor, WiFi, an outdoor garden area and an amazing breakfast. Everything deserves 10/10, especially the hospitality and cleanliness. We'll definitely be back soon. Thanks so much!
