The room and shower weren't huge, but they were more than adequate, and we had everything we needed. I especially liked the generous bedside table space, handy plug sockets by the bed and all the coat hooks in both the room and en suite. There was a fairly large telly too. The room was excellent value, and breakfast was a decent full English for the price. The location suited us and parking was easy, though it isn't a dedicated pub car park. Check-in was listed as 4pm, later than most places we've stayed, but they didn't mind us arriving a bit early. The 7-8am Sunday breakfast slot was a bit brutal, but worth it.

It was my second stay at Gilesgate, and somehow even better than the first. I enjoyed all three days, and sometimes chose to stay in the hotel instead of heading out to Durham. The place looks like a pub outside, but inside the atmosphere is what makes it so good. James and Sarah are such welcoming hosts, it feels almost like being part of the family. My room was clean, the bed was comfortable and everything worked as it should. Sarah's breakfasts are outstanding. I look forward to them adding evening meals, and I definitely plan to return. Thanks again, James and Sarah.

It was my first visit to England and I had a blast. Such a lovely pub, with lovely people 🥰 I got mistaken for a stripper, but still had so much fun. I'll never forget this place 😁 Definitely coming back 😁 Cheers 😁

Such a great atmosphere and breakfast, and a lovely couple. We came as customers and left as friends. We'll definitely be back.

James & Sarah are lovely, welcoming people who really make you feel at home. They stayed up for my check-in after midnight, offered me a late meal, and even treated me to an extra drink at the bar. Kind, thoughtful service, and you'd be lucky to have them host you.
