We were made to feel very welcome throughout, with friendly, professional and courteous staff at every turn. Suzanna at reception was especially helpful and quickly sorted our Woucher booking. My wife and I stayed at the Honest Lawyer Hotel for Valentine's weekend, and the experience was excellent. The food on the Valentine's Day menu was very good in both quality and presentation. Most rooms have a motel-style layout, which suited us fine. Ours was well appointed, with good views over Wear Valley, a comfortable temperature, tea and coffee facilities, a TV and the usual en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath. The shower was very powerful. Breakfast was good quality. Cereal, fruit juice, fruit, yoghurts and toast were served buffet style, while we ordered the cooked English Breakfast at the table and had it brought to us. I’d very much like to return sometime this year. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We’ll definitely come back. It’s a lovely country setting, yet Durham centre is only a five-minute drive away. The rooms were comfortable, with parking right by the door, which was ideal with our dog. We also really enjoyed the restaurant: the food was excellent and well priced, and on warm days we could eat in the charming beer garden.

We’d never eaten at The Honest Lawyer before, so weren’t sure what to expect for our family’s Christmas Day meal. All six of us thought the food was excellent, with succulent turkey, tasty vegetables and portions that were just right. The room was comfortable, spacious and nicely decorated, and the service was friendly and prompt. It was easily the best hotel Christmas meal we’ve had in years. Thanks to everyone for making it such a perfect day.

We stopped in for dinner on Friday, so I can’t comment on the rooms, but the atmosphere and setting were lovely. The staff welcomed us and sat us down straight away. You’d never have known it was Hattie's first night: she checked on us and made us feel special. Ross has built a lovely bar and restaurant team. We’ll definitely be back.

My sister’s wedding here between Christmas and New Year was amazing. The venue felt warm and welcoming and was just right for a party. Ross went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, and every staff member was friendly, helpful and made us feel comfortable. We’d visited several times before the wedding, and the food and drinks were always 10/10. Their Sunday dinners and breakfasts are especially good. We all stayed in rooms the night before and the night of the wedding. They were clean, lovely and much more spacious than we expected. Everyone at the wedding had the same reaction: what a wonderful place. I can’t thank the venue, staff and service enough. ❤️
