We booked at the last minute on a whim, and it turned out to be a winner. The whole stay went smoothly, from booking to leaving. The staff were friendly, the room was spotless with a comfortable big bed, and the hot tub area had lovely views. They served a pasta dish and prosecco in our room as part of the stay, and there was a great cocktail selection. Breakfast was a lovely fry-up with perfect eggs. We enjoyed it so much we paid for extra time in the room. A perfect anniversary treat for ourselves, and we’ll definitely return for a longer stay.

The hosts were lovely and the customer service was good, but the room was much too warm. Even with a fan, it overheated and affected my asthma. Breakfast was a small, basic cooked meal with no choices, so it lacked variety. On our way to the hotel, we were told at the last minute that a gas problem meant the included dinner wouldn’t be available. We were almost there, too late to rebook, and ended up walking into town and paying an extra £50 for dinner. It would have been nice to know sooner. With my mobility issues, a walk-in shower would have suited me better than a tin bath.

After a five-hour drive, my daughter and I found the hotel closed for business. The company had taken my money 48 hours earlier and never contacted me to say it had shut. Nearly a week later, I’m still waiting for a refund, and they’ve offered no compensation for the fact that we had to pay almost twice as much for another room that night. The hotel is still advertised on Booking.com and OYO’s website. Don’t trust OYO. Awful customer service. At the very least, call the hotel before setting off to check it’s actually still open.

The hotel had closed two months before I arrived, yet Booking.com knowingly still let them take my money and is still letting them contact me. I’m pursuing Booking.com for a refund. Totally diabolical.

We’d seen mixed reviews and were a bit apprehensive, but there was no need to worry. The garden room was amazing, spotless and finished to a high standard. There were robes and slippers on the bed, chocolates on the pillow, and Prosecco on arrival. It’s a beautiful place to relax, and Dan was an attentive, amazing host. Food was delivered to the room when we asked, piping hot and delicious. Great location too. Would recommend it 100%.
