A chilled, cosy pub with lovely staff, a car park, and a dog-friendly policy. The surroundings are lovely too. We’d hoped to have lunch, but they stop serving at 2.15 on Saturdays, so I’ll need to remember that next time. We stayed for a drink instead. It’s always worth a visit.

Our family get-together over Sunday roast was a relaxing, enjoyable time. The food was excellent quality, with good-sized portions, and the service was friendly and helpful. It’s a warm, cosy pub.

The belly pork was exceptional. Prices were competitive, and the meal came with all the trimmings, so there was no extra charge for things like cauliflower cheese.

I’ve stayed in all kinds of places around the world and have never been treated so horrifically. At 10:59 am on checkout day, a man knocked loudly and rudely yelled at us to leave. At 11:10, he was yelling and making threats again. Earlier, housekeepers had blasted music while cleaning, so loud radio personalities woke us up, and when I politely asked them to turn it down, the response was huffy. The walls were paper thin, the bathroom sink was the smallest I’ve ever seen, the carpet was gross, and the wallpaper was peeling. The room was barely even charming, rustic at best. I was shocked by the awful experience. People are generous when they describe the local reputation for “grumpy” service. This was downright hateful and rude. Stay away.

The staff were fab and handled my dietary requirements, and all four of us put the restaurant among our favourites. The pub and food were amazing. We had three courses, and everything was so good, flavourful and tender. We look forward to coming back.
