Sea Shell Hotel

The Sea Shell Hotel is basic accommodation in a good location and seems fairly priced for what it offers. It feels more like a hostel than somewhere for a romantic break, so keep that in mind. Our room was clean, with fresh bedding and towels, and the beds were comfortable.

A broken bed in our room was one of several problems. The lobby, called a “recreation room,” had only a few cheap plywood tables and chairs, and no TV. The hot water system made a noise like an industrial washing machine whenever anyone on the floor showered. Floors and doors creaked as people walked in neighbouring rooms, and the walls were so thin that even light snoring or an ordinary conversation carried through. This isn’t a hotel in my view, just a low tier hostel for broke students or transients. Frankly, the only reason I can think of for a business to be managed so badly is money laundering.

I’d tell people to stay somewhere else if they want a comfortable room and a good night’s sleep. Our family room was dirty and very tired, with a broken window that wouldn’t secure and a mouldy fridge. There was only one socket, so the TV and microwave couldn’t both be used, and the TV had no aerial, meaning you had to sign into apps to watch anything. The bed was broken too. Another room flooded, and staff just said there was nothing they could do and we’d have to get over it. Later, they brought clean pillows but left our room unlocked, with our valuables exposed to theft. The hotel photos must be old ones from the previous owners. It felt like false advertising. I’d give negative stars if I could.

We keep coming back because it gives us a comfortable, clean and safe place to stay at a good price, especially for somewhere so close to everything. It does need updating, but we’ve seen improvements on each visit. The staff have always been great, and we’ll book again.
