The couple who run the place were friendly and cooked a great breakfast. You can get hotel parking permits for just £1 a day, compared with local paid parking at anything from £6-12 a day. I stayed in a front single room, and despite being so close to town it was quiet and tranquil. I struggle with chronic lack of sleep in London, but got a full 8 hours both nights. Great place, comfy bed, and recommended!

It’s a guesthouse rather than a hotel, and that distinction suited us. We loved the old, characterful building and its typical features. The owner gave us a very warm welcome. Our family room had loads of space for four adults, with coffee, tea, cookies and water provided. Breakfast was very good, and I’d definitely stay again.

My room was right at the top of the hotel, up 52 steps. It was small but nicely kept, and the bathroom was clean with a decent electric shower. The staff were friendly and helpful. I was only there for a course, so didn’t spend much time in the hotel, but I’d stay again for a similar event.

I’d avoid this place. There was a bad smell as I walked through, and the cleaning was zero marks. My room was full of dust, like builders had just finished work, so I had to leave. The property also seemed old on the outside. After driving from London for the weekend, this was incredibly frustrating. I called the person in charge and said I wasn’t staying the night. They apologised and said they could refund half the money. That’s a terrible way to deal with customers. I’m sorry to complain, but I couldn’t avoid it this time. I felt they were dishonest and just wanted to take my money.
