West Rocks Townhouse

I stayed last year, and the strong dog smell made the room really uncomfortable. This is a dog friendly hotel, which is fine, but I couldn't put my feet on the carpet because it had dog hair on it. I told a man on the evening shift at reception, and he kindly came to hoover. The hoover made the smell worse and still didn't pick up the hairs. Being dog friendly is great, but they need a decent hoover and to clean it regularly. Maybe keep two rooms for guests who aren't bringing animals. The smell and hair still aren't acceptable. It's a shame, because the place had good reviews and I really wanted a comfortable stay. The pool table was tilted so the balls went into the same holes, and the felt was so bobbly it was ready for the bin. I wouldn't stay again. The dog smell was so strong I felt I couldn't breathe, and I felt I had to wear shoes around the room. The owner gave me a £40 partial refund as I was leaving. I'm gutted to leave this review, but hope it's taken constructively. People who don't mind the animal smell may be fine if they're bringing pets, but anyone wanting a clean, comfortable stay should look somewhere that doesn't allow pets.

The sea view was amazing, even in February. Chris was so friendly and helpful, and staying here for my birthday made it great. Looking forward to coming back in summer :)

Loved the bowl of sweets at reception. The hotel is clean and smart, and you get great sea views from the bar and balcony. It’s a wonderful Victorian place, with staff who can’t do enough for you.

It was unbearably hot in the room. There’s no AC, and the website didn’t mention that. We could only open the windows a crack, and the cheap fan they gave us barely cooled the room. The room also hadn’t been cleaned properly of the previous guests’ pet dander. My friend woke up with puffy eyes and couldn’t breathe well at all. You could hear how congested she was. We canceled our second night because of these problems, but they refused to refund it. We moved to another pet-friendly hotel up the street, where she was completely fine because the rooms were properly cleaned. We wouldn’t recommend this place at all. Awful service!!!
