We had lunch here and chose the steak pie and beef burger from the range of menus. Both were superb, with generous portions and a lovely selection of freshly cooked vegetables. The food was excellent quality, made by a chef who clearly had a lot of skill and experience. It's a lovely family-run restaurant and bar, about 30 minutes from Edinburgh and ten from Peebles. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the premises were warm, comfortable and well kept, with spotless toilets. We'll definitely be back.

The plant-based menu was thoughtfully put together, and the vegan wellington was fresh, full of flavour and amazing. The service was great, and the staff were really friendly. The restaurant was lovely inside, and we enjoyed the scenic drive out from Edinburgh. I'd absolutely go back. We went with my partner's grandfather, who's a bit hard of hearing, so we spoke louder to help him hear. Some other guests gave us the side-eye. Everyone else was talking softly and seemed relaxed, so maybe it's usually quieter there. It might be a better fit for a date night.

We ate here while staying at the nearby Barony Castle hotel. They were very busy and let us know there'd be a delay because a large group of diners was ahead of us. Even so, the food arrived in reasonable time and was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

We had an early dinner and ate in the bar, though the dining room looked lovely. The service was great and they were very dog friendly. There was a great selection on the menu at reasonable prices. The pie was excellent, as was the beef wellington. Recommend both.

We booked an early evening meal and were impressed by the cosy setting, nice decor and excellent service. When we asked to swap the vegetables with our mains, the woman serving us went out of her way to find a solution. She also gave my husband gravy instead of the sauce that came with his dish. Nothing seemed too much trouble. We had chowder, tomato soup, chicken and leek pie, and pork ribs, all excellent quality. Prices were average for this kind of food. The only downside was the lack of real ale and dark beer. The bar staff let us try a beer before buying it, which was a nice touch. We'd happily book again if we were in the area.
