A night here includes two days' entry to Hever Castle, discounts at the gift shop and café, and access to the grounds after they close to the public, so the cost covers quite a bit. It is expensive for a B&B, though it feels more like a luxury hotel in a stunning setting. We stayed in the Anne Boleyn Wing and were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived. The accommodation and staff were faultless for us. There are acres of beautifully kept grounds to walk around, plenty of culture, and a five-star level of comfort, with an excellent breakfast the next morning.

We had a peaceful night's sleep in comfortable beds, and the standard twin room was really cute. The staff were so welcoming, breakfast was lovely, and using the fob to get back in after driving to a pub for dinner was easy. Having access before and after the public visitors leave was a real treat. I'd highly recommend it.

The one thing to bear in mind is the nearby airport. Planes fly very low overhead at night and early in the morning, so a light sleeper will probably wake up, though a heavy sleeper should be fine. We stayed in the Snowdrop room, which felt luxurious, including the bathroom. The large bed was very comfortable and the toiletries were gorgeous. After our Winnie the Pooh themed day at Pooh’s Corner, it was lovely to finish the trip inside Hever Castle Grounds. Walking through the gardens after closing felt special and beautiful, and breakfast was delicious with just the right amount served.

Walking the castle grounds and gardens alone in the evening, once the public had gone, was a unique experience. Darren welcomed us warmly and was helpful and enthusiastic. The historic buildings, our nice room and the breakfast all added to a lovely overnight stay. The next day, after seeing the gardens, I asked reception where I could sit and rest my legs for an hour while my wife toured the castle. Two young women told me there was nowhere to sit, apparently because they had a corporate event and didn't want an ordinary guest using a chair. They said I could sit outside, but it was cold, and as I'd previously had a stroke, I ended up sitting in my car. That wasn't how I expected my afternoon to go. 🙁

We wanted somewhere different for a single night, and Hever was a great choice. The building has a lot of atmosphere and fits its setting, and the staff were friendly the whole time. Our feature double in Astor was nice and very clean. It is a bit pricey for a B&B, but having the castle grounds to wander around by ourselves was lovely.
