Premier Inn Edinburgh A1 - Newcraighall

Best Premier Inn I’ve visited. The beds and showers were tip top, as usual, and the breakfast room was clean, efficient and fresh. It was a relief to eat there instead of in one of those dated, dark and dirty Brewers Fayre type places. The staff were so friendly and helpful, at reception and at breakfast. The location is handy too, by the motorway, railway station and retail park with a good choice of places to eat. There’s also a Bannatynes gym with a pool nearby.

I stayed three nights this week and barely slept any of them. The floorboards outside my room were so loud that anyone walking past woke me up. Freight trains also ran through the night on tracks about 10 metres from the back window. I left exhausted. It made for a very poor stay.

The room was right by the tracks, so we heard trains going past through the night. There was also a lot of corridor noise and stomping from the room above. In the morning I found the shower curtain was missing. I put a towel down to protect the floor, but it still felt like a slipping risk. An expensive, unsatisfactory stay. I can’t recommend this place.

The staff are what make this hotel. Everyone we spoke to was friendly and helpful, and the rooms were very clean. You might spot a mark on a wall or carpet, but that seems more down to some guests being careless with things like tea and coffee. Breakfast had a good selection, and there’s a pub attached for food and drinks. It’s just yards from the A1, but wasn’t noisy, and there’s plenty of parking. We didn’t need the car once we arrived: buses into the city are good, and the railway station is across the road, with trains every half hour that take 10 minutes. We’d be quite happy to stay again.
