I’ve been twice and already want to go back. It’s a lovely trip back to the kind of holidays I remember from the 80s and 90s, and a good place for young kids and adults. Teenagers may not get as much out of it. The Wi-Fi is weak, and mobile reception ranges from poor to nonexistent, so it’s a poor fit if you need to stay connected. If you want to switch off from the modern world, though, it’s just the thing.

Tommys lodge, where we stayed, was immaculate. The site has two bars, a kids’ play park, and helpful staff. The overall site name can be confusing, as different parts of the same area have other names.

We had a great stay, and the wooded walk nearby was lovely for taking the dog. The park is just across the road, and Lemon Tree lodge made a handy base for exploring Northumberland. It had everything we needed, including plenty of seating, a hot tub, and two bathrooms, one with a bath that worked well for families with young children. A light closer to the hot tub would have helped, though it wouldn’t be much of an issue earlier in summer. The Crazy Horse bar and restaurant was a good spot further along the site, and there’s a small shop for anything you’ve forgotten. We also found a well-stocked welcome pack with milk, tea bags, hot chocolate, coffee, and other things. I noticed Asda delivering to a couple of places on site, which could be handy to arrange before arriving.

It’s so peaceful up here. The lodges are clean, warm, and really spacious, and the staff in both bars are friendly and helpful. I love coming here.

We spent the weekend in Aspen Lodge, a cozy place with everything we needed. The pub on site was great, and Friday night bingo was fun, with good cash prizes. The food looked good, though I didn’t try any. A bottle of wine was £20.
