We went back on Tuesday with our daughter for dinner, and the meal was just as good as our Sunday visit. The pork belly was excellent and the steak cooked perfectly. On Sunday we'd missed the roast, which looked fantastic, so we'll have to return for one. We still had a great afternoon there, with live music every Sunday afternoon. Gez was playing when we visited and really added to the relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The bar staff were cheerful and attentive, and drinks came quickly. It's a beautiful pub, and we're looking forward to coming back.

Lily looked after our group of ten brilliantly. Everyone got the right meal, with a big smile, and the whole dinner went smoothly. The service and communication were superb, and dining together felt relaxed. The interiors are lovely, with different sections and plenty of history. There's even an old well by the entrance, now covered with glass. The Sunday roast was superb, as were the starters and homemade desserts. I'd especially recommend the roast beef, prawn cocktail and banoffee pie.

We had the roast beef for a late Sunday lunch, and it was tender and still pink. The vegetables were hot and cooked nicely, and we finished with homemade sticky toffee pudding and custard. The two young waitresses were friendly, polite and efficient, and we were welcomed and seated quickly in the restaurant area. You could tell it had been busy earlier. A warm, welcoming pub, and we'll definitely be back.

The room had a tiny double bed and a small shower, though the lunch and room were reasonably priced. Given that the pub is over 500 years old, you make do with the space it has. Breakfast was tasty and included in our stay, served by a lovely, friendly young woman. The 15th Century pub itself is gorgeous, with low beamed ceilings and a nice outdoor area. The Sunday roast was glorious, a huge portion, and the staff were lovely. It's a great base for walks nearby, and Rudyard Kipling's house, Batemans, is about a 15-minute walk away.

The staff were lovely, attentive to everyone and always smiling. Even with just two women covering the bar and food on our first night, then a man and a woman on the second, they were on the ball and wonderful hosts. We were visiting from blackpool for work and have eaten here every night because the food was so good. The steak, ale and blue cheese pie with roasted veg and mash was a treat. The next night I had scampi and chips with homemade tartar sauce and a side salad with balsamic glaze, and couldn't fault it. A cracking little local pub. We'll eat here again next time we're in the area.
