The room I was given was dirty and smelly, even though I’d booked a premium one. There were towels left in the corridor at 8 p.m., which felt completely unhygienic. The place also felt creepy and unsafe, with poor lighting even in the outdoor car park. I wouldn’t risk bringing children here. Sony at reception was very rude and raised her voice at me for no reason. When I asked basic questions about my room and the elevator, she snapped that I should have “read about the hotel before booking.” The owner, who was sitting at reception, was no more helpful or polite. I spoke with another couple whose heater wasn’t working in 6°C weather. They were refused a room change despite the hotel looking almost empty. Dirty rooms, rude staff and terrible management. I recorded my interactions and was shocked by how they behaved. Save your money and avoid this place.

My room seemed just like the one in the photos Ian Hatten posted, possibly the very same room. It faced the park and river, which was a nice view, but the single-glazed window let in road noise. There was an electric fire for heating if the radiator wasn’t on. I didn’t try breakfast.

Breakfast was great value at just £13, with a hot option, cereal, yoghurt and drinks. My room was clean, nicely decorated and looked out over the river.

I had a comfortable room with what I needed. Being at the front meant some road noise, and the single-glazed windows didn’t do much to keep it out.

We went on Tuesday as a group of seven for coffee, though not everyone had arrived yet. We often meet for our weekly coffee morning at different local places. The welcome was really rude, though. A miserable lady wanted to know what we were there for. When we said we’d come for a coffee
