The location is hard to beat, a few minutes on foot from Exeter’s High Street and the Cathedral. I stayed at The Depot for summer accommodation in both 2022 and 2025, and the clean, spacious room and well-kept shared kitchen were good value. In 2025, one week cost me £245, which seemed quite reasonable. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for, though here The Depot offers excellent value for money. There were a few changes between visits. Bedding was included in 2022 but not in 2025, so bear that in mind. Also, The Depot only took UK-issued payment cards in 2025. I had to use an international bank transfer, which was a hassle. The in-house reservation system worked, but it sent a flood of emails. A young receptionist was helpful and made that process easier.

The facilities are a real highlight: there’s a cool gym, outdoor space, study areas, a comfy common room and a communal kitchen used for events. Rooms are standard en suites and well maintained. The kitchens aren’t fully equipped, but they’re spacious, open and nice to use. The accommodation is lovely and generally clean, although the laundry room and machines are sometimes an exception. Staff are friendly and helpful, and always happy to chat. You feel listened to here. They run events two or three times a month, which is a nice way to meet people and join in with the community. Honestly, I can’t recommend The Depot enough.

The bus station is right across the street, and it’s so convenient. There are lots of stores within five minutes and the city centre is under ten minutes away. My room’s lovely, with two big windows and a beautiful view. I’d like drawers in the wardrobe, but it’s not a big issue. So far I love everything here. Really recommend it to students looking for nice, affordable accommodation 🫶🏻

The Depot feels properly managed, not like just another faceless block. Staff care about the residents, and the general atmosphere has been good. Whenever I’ve had a maintenance request, it’s been dealt with quickly and efficiently, with clear communication. It’s also in a great spot, close to campus and the city centre, which makes everyday life easy. From the start, the management team has been professional, approachable and reliable, which isn’t something you always get in student accommodation. The building has been impressive throughout my stay, and I’d happily recommend The Depot to students wanting a comfortable, well-run and stress-free place to live in Exeter.

I stayed here for two years, and I’d seriously discourage new students from booking. The photos online and the overpriced rooms give the impression of a nice place to study, but my experience was deeply disappointing. In the first year, the shared kitchen became a complete biohazard because of other residents. I know management can only do so much about that, but they should have made sure it was cleaned between contracts. In my view it clearly hadn’t been. Management didn’t seem bothered and never checked the property’s condition. Oil all over the hobs created a severe fire risk, and they didn’t act about plugs hanging off the walls either. I booked again for the following year because circumstances made it hard to find somewhere else. In writing, I was told I could keep my room free during the week between contracts. A month later they changed their minds and said I’d have to move my things out and back in a week later, unless I paid about £200. I refused and threatened legal action, showing them the earlier email promise that I could leave my things there. They let me keep them because of that, then told me not to tell anyone else about the arrangement. I was afraid they might enter my room and trash my things while I was away, so I kept quiet, though I wish I’d told people. I wonder how many others got the same promise verbally without emails to back it up. It was incredibly deceitful. My second year was worse. The kitchen barely got cleaner, and the electricity in my room cut out EVERY EVENING. Most of my dealings were with Naomi. Management said I was the only resident with the problem and made it sound like my fault, but out-of-hours maintenance told me other rooms across the property had the same issue. It seriously affected my mental health, and the university became quite concerned about my accommodation. Management’s attempts to help were pathetic and disruptive. They PAT tested my appliances even though the electricians told me the appliances weren’t the problem. They also gave me access to an empty room as an emergency power source, but it was cold and incredibly dusty, just inhospitable. If I’d wanted that weird room, I would have booked it. Eventually, the new manager admitted by email that the electrical supply problem was a fault in the system. Even after I showed management that email chain, they still refused any compensation and went back on their word. My university advised me to contact Citizens Advicr, but I had to focus on my studies and ultimately chose not to. The place looks nice in photos, but it’s cheaply constructed. There are nicer, safer houses in the private sector and private accommodation. Reception staff need better training, basic respect for residents and some pride in their work. Maintenance and out-of-hours security were nice enough, but management’s deep-rooted inefficiencies made living here truly unpleasant. One more thing: I checked their Instagram on 13. Oct 2025. I left in July, but the posts indicated the electrical issues were still ongoing. Don’t be fooled by their feeble Instagram attempts to make the property look happy and cohesive. That’s far from reality. Edit: I forgot to mention, MANY POSITIVE REVIEWS ARE FAKE. While I was there, they offered vouchers and free gifts to students who gave them five-star reviews.
