Mark and Theresa were lovely hosts, and you have to stop and say hello to Captain the Parrot. We had a great stay at The New Inn. The room was clean, cosy and comfortable, with lots of amenities. The pub serves excellent food and has a huge selection of ciders as well as beer. We’ll certainly stay again next time we’re in the area. Thanks again!

I dropped in on a whim for lunch and was so glad I did. Even dining alone, I felt welcome and comfortable. The pub was busy, but the landlord paid attention and got my food to me quickly. The meal was great, reasonably priced, and the atmosphere was lovely. Highly recommend.

Lovely old pub with a great beer garden, good food and a nice drinks selection. I haven’t stayed in the rooms, so can’t comment on them.

The roast was a good reason to visit this long-established pub, with its genuinely old-fashioned surroundings. Captain the parrot is usually on his mobile perch where the owners can see him from the kitchen. He’s getting on a bit, doesn’t chatter, and is quite cute without being a distraction. We found plenty of parking, and the landlord’s tip to use the front entrance avoided the steps. That route should work for wheelchair access if needed. A very jovial, friendly woman behind the bar made us feel comfortable. There were some good ales on tap, plus the usual spirits and non-alcoholic drinks. A small log fire at one end gave a bit of warmth. It didn’t heat the whole ground floor, but we weren’t uncomfortable. The roast comes in two-meat or vegetarian options, with three portion sizes. I chose the standard serving: two slices of medium-rare beef, about 2 mm thick, a Yorkshire pudding topped with some grated fried thing, sweet boiled turnip cubes and half a parsnip. There was also a shared bowl of carrots, cabbage and broccoli for two, plus a small bowl of very nice horseradish. The dessert choices were the usual pub trio or a cheese board. I had sticky toffee pudding and asked for custard instead of the suggested ice cream. The change was no trouble, and they happily brought a small jug of hot custard at no extra cost. A young waitress served us politely and checked that everything was as expected. In March 2026, a pint of real ale, a half of lemonade and all the food came to £80. It’s better than a Wetherspoons in a properly old pub setting. More choices, perhaps chicken and lamb, would give the menu more variety.

Lunch at the New Inn today was just right for a remote pub. The landlord and landlady were friendly, the toilets were clean, and the panini was tasty, packed with Brie, with really good chips. Thank you.
