York made a great day out, but parking there can be a pain, so the bus from the village is a handy option. A family return ticket was £10, and the service was good. We also enjoyed the village itself, with its friendly community feel, nearby walks and parks with ziplines for different ages. Stamford bridge is close, with a small co-op and a few welcoming places to eat and drink. We’re here for seven nights and the cottages have been fabulous, kept immaculately. Booking by phone was easy, and the Owner was helpful from our first enquiry. We received the directions and access codes by email a few days ahead. He came to say hello the first morning, and it’s clear he and his team care a lot about the Cottages. Yorkshire is lovely for a proper break, and the people we met were full of helpful advice.

Ethel's Retreat is a spacious, well-equipped barn conversion, and there’s a great playpark just down the farm track. The light switches are a bit of a puzzle, though, you have to guess which one does what. The Cottages are well placed for getting to York and exploring other places too.

Ethel’s Escape was a lovely, restful place to stay. The decor was beautiful, and it was well placed for seeing the area, including York City Centre via the Park & Ride.

I got to spend four nights in this lovely cottage and really enjoyed it. It’s in a beautiful setting and has everything you need. I’d definitely recommend these cottages.
