The Old House Hotel

We had a lovely, relaxing few hours at the spa with a friend, moving between the hot tub, sauna, steam room, and water bed. There are two hot tubs at opposite ends of the building, one steam room, what looked like two or three small outdoor saunas, sauna beds inside, and a really nice massage chair. The staff were friendly and brought us fruit teas. Parking is an issue: there’s none at the spa, and the square only allows two hours, so we found a longer-stay car park. I was also confused about the entrance at first and knocked on the main hotel door. You need to walk down the side of the main building, past two or three parking spaces and the bins, then go through the gate by the large metal spa sign.

The facial I had was AMAZING, and I’d really recommend visiting. It was my first time at the spa and the whole place felt like a tucked-away little hideout, intimate and incredibly chilled. We knew there were other customers around, but hardly crossed paths with them, which added to the atmosphere.

The spa was top notch, with kind staff and plenty of places for couples to relax even when other couples were there. We had a restorative, relaxing time. Breakfast was a feast, with so many great choices and more food than we were ready for. The room was stylish and clean, with good insulation, air conditioning, and a window for fresh air. Modern details included portable controls for the lights and heating, plus a digital shower control that showed energy use. Staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, especially Kerri-Jay, whom we saw both mornings at breakfast. We had a wonderful two-day break from the City in this lovely village setting. There are nice pubs and restaurants nearby, as well as a great walking path a short distance away.

Breakfast was so fresh and delicious, with enough variety that I’d happily recommend anything we tried. It’s included in the room price, and you can order as much as you like from the menu. We tucked into a huge breakfast that kept us going through the next six hours at the spa. We stayed two nights in the Red Rose Room and could easily have stayed twice as long. The room was amazing, with a huge TV that gave us a proper cinema feel and one of the comfiest beds we’ve slept in. The spa was beautiful, peaceful, and well cared for, with a steam room, saunas, several hot tubs, brilliant massage chairs, a cold plunge, and a water bed you sink into. There was lots of outdoor seating, perfect on the sunny day we had. Our massages with Charlotte and Maylene were fantastic. They were friendly and helpful as spa staff as well as brilliant masseuses, and we left feeling like new people. Definitely book a massage if you spend the day there. Alex and Nadia, along with the spa staff, made us feel welcome and comfortable at the hotel. A fantastic stay at this hidden gem, 10/10, we’ll be back!
