We left after one night. I was too upset and frustrated to talk to the owners then, and the money we’d worked hard for felt wasted. Our anniversary was ruined, and I’m still disappointed. I don’t want anyone else to have the same experience. We’d booked a place advertised as a woodland cabin at Dale Farm for our 22nd anniversary. It felt like staying in a shed, and we paid just under £200 for it. There was no fridge, just a cooler box that didn’t keep anything cold. We’d brought ice packs to chill our beers on the journey, but even with the still-cold packs in the box, the beer was warm later. Since the cabin has a BBQ, how are you meant to keep meat chilled? A mini fridge would make sense. There was no Wi-Fi or complimentary tea or coffee, either. There was a wire coming out of the ceiling light. The curtains barely blocked the light and didn’t give much privacy. They were musty and no longer the colour they were meant to be. The outdoor chairs looked ready to collapse, and the wooden indoor ones were so uncomfortable we couldn’t sit in them for half an hour without our backsides going numb. The throw and hot water bottle cover were dirty. The whole shed needs gutting, and there was a sharp smell of varnish or something else that seemed toxic. The decking had dents and cracks. The provided chiminea had a hole in the bottom big enough for a fist, and needed to go in a skip. From the deck, the view was of the owners’ house, lawn and car park, not pretty fields. We tried moving our chairs to find a view without a brick wall and cars, then gave up. The next morning, the toilet and shower were in the same room, and it was occupied for the best part of three quarters of an hour. As far as we could tell, one toilet and shower served three woodland cabins, a treehouse and another let. The shower tray also had a gaping split. We knew the place wasn’t within walking distance of anything and had wanted that sort of setting. Hunmanby chip shop was fantastic, though. I asked politely for a refund. The owners then changed their feedback on my review and reported me to the fraud department. They’re the ones advertising the cabins in a completely different light from what they are. They haven’t addressed my complaints about the let, ignored the issues I raised and haven’t even said they’ll fix them for future guests.

We first stayed in the Treehouse and came back to try the Grain Store. Both are lovely places for a BBQ while watching the sunset. We’ll be back again. Dale Farm Holidays is so peaceful and tranquil, and it’s perfect for a holiday with our small dog. The hosts are super friendly and always around if you have questions. There’s good reason we returned and plan to keep doing so.

The small cabins are basic but have everything you need, and the shared bathroom was clean. The hosts were welcoming and lovely, while still giving you space. Jack the dog was lovely too. It’s a beautiful farm in a fantastic spot, near the beach and not far from Filey town centre. I’d definitely stay again and recommend it to friends.

The Treehouse was quirky, quaint and really well built. We were surprised by how roomy the bedroom was. There’s a big shower with hot water, a downstairs toilet, and a little spot with a kettle, toaster and microwave. Downstairs, the kitchen had clean crockery, plates and washing-up supplies. Fairy lights in the treehouse and on the balcony were a lovely touch. Wood was there when we arrived and available to buy, though I’d bring extra firelighters and charcoal if you want to use it most nights. The grounds are shared and beautiful, especially for guests with dogs. We didn’t bring one but enjoyed chatting with people as they passed or walked around. There’s still plenty of privacy in your own area. Paul was pleasant and welcoming, and around if we needed anything, even for a morning wave. It was also lovely to meet Liz. We were warned about the flies when we arrived, and it is the countryside, so what do you expect? Citronella candles or incense sticks might help if you’re concerned. We used them and had no problem eating or drinking on the balcony or in the kitchen. We had a fabulous trip. Dale Farm is a wonderful place with brilliant hosts, and we hope to return soon. I don’t understand how anyone could have a bad word to say about the place, the hosts or the location. Thank you for such a lovely stay!
