Gordon Arms Hotel

The meal was decent pub food, and breakfast was fine. The staff were friendly, so I’m guessing the room was just an accident. My bedroom felt a bit dated, though. The person on duty hadn’t replaced the used coffee jug or the towels, and one towel was still wet from the previous guest. There was a fresh large towel, luckily, since it was a double, but the smaller one had makeup on it, so I left it. The sheets looked clean, but I used the clean towel as a precaution. Shower gel and shampoo were on the shower floor and half empty, so I figured they’d been used too. Maybe the cleaner had the day off or was just having a bad day.

The breakfast was brilliant, and the staff were great fun to chat with. This is an old historic hotel, so the rooms have a dated feel and aren’t especially quiet. They do provide earplugs. If you’re eating there, the pie looks like the best bet.

We had a nice Easter Sunday carvery with the grandkids, and there was plenty of food. We’re just not fans of frozen carrots. The prices seemed reasonable for a hotel, and the staff were friendly. I was concerned that serving staff weren’t wearing hair coverings. It was also awkward to get around the Baine Marie because it was so close to the woman carving the meat, which meant people had to shuffle about at times.

The portions were so generous that my son and I could barely fit our carvery on the plates, and everything was delicious. My daughter had chicken fillets, and we all had an excellent lunch. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive, nothing was too much trouble, and the prices were reasonable. We’ll be back next time we’re in the area.
