Courtyard Cottage

The welcome was good and the owner communicated well. The bathrooms were in good shape and the internet was decent, but the cottage feels run down and needs some attention. The road in is rough on a car unless you've got a 4x4. There wasn't enough decent seating for seven: just a three-seater and a two-seater sofa, plus a wooden seat at the table that didn't feel safe because the seat itself was held together by the fabric. The upper bunk duvet was barely thicker than a sheet, and my son was cold most nights. There was also a bizarre mural above the master bedroom bed that wasn't pleasant to look at. Some mugs were cracked, leaving only about five usable ones for our party of six in a cottage sleeping seven. The frying pans were worn out, the cutlery was a mismatched collection, and some teaspoons were really flimsy. The dishwasher didn't clean anything, so we had to wash the pots by hand. It gave me the impression the owner hadn't recently spent a week there to see what needs fixing. With a bit of TLC, this could be a five-star cottage.

We’ll be back. The cottage was roomy, clean and really comfortable, and the hosts were wonderful. It’s set on the grounds of an impressive lodge in Angus.

The cottage had excellent facilities and suited both families and couples. We had a lovely stay during Covid-19, with nice walks around the area and further afield by car. Hope we can return in future.

This was our second visit to the excellent cottage, and we’ll be back again. The owners are nearby if you need anything.
