I’ve stayed here many times and intend to come back again. The staff are friendly, and the lodge is immaculate, with thoughtful touches everywhere, from the soft lighting and lamps to the cushions and blankets. The hot tub is always a bonus, and it’s properly hot.

It was so peaceful in the beautiful countryside, and very handy for the ferry to Fowey. The lodge turned out to be much more spacious and better equipped than I expected. The woman at reception was lovely, too. I’ll definitely think about coming back.

We came back for a long weekend after staying here two years ago, and again had a really positive experience. The team are friendly, attentive and do a lot to make guests comfortable. We had a small issue on arrival, but they apologized straight away and sorted it out, and were very accommodating. I’m surprised by some of the older negative reviews. Nothing felt outdated to us. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

The lodge was enormous, with so many cupboards I doubt anyone uses them all, plus a double wine cabinet that must hold around 48 bottles. The receptionist was very pleasant. We did find just one loo roll in each toilet and no spares, and only one plastic liner in the main bin, none in the others or the food waste caddy. The walk back from the Fowey ferry is a killer, though I am 65.

We had a comfortable four-night stay in Lodges Number 12 and 21, and would visit again. The rooms are large, the beds are wide and comfortable, the furniture is good quality, and the kitchens have the modern appliances you need. Penmarlam Lodge Retreat sits in lovely countryside near the ferry in the Fowey area, with meadows, grazing cows and sheep, and natural tracks between the simply coloured lodges. There’s also a small park that works as a fun play area for youngsters. One suggestion for the administration: someone should contact guests in the morning to check their arrival time and send the lodge number and gate or room codes. We arrived around 10:30 pm, with nobody available to help. Well done, Panmarlam Lodges Administration.
