The Lugger Inn

The chips were okay, and they gave a polite refund, but the takeaway portions were ridiculously small. The £12 fish and chips was virtually all batter, and the scampi was no better. When we showed them the tiny portion and asked for a replacement, they said no, they were all the same, as in the photo. Service gets three stars. If you can, go over to Fowey for much better food and service.

Food was cheaper than most places, and the skin-on fries were good. The chunky chips, though, were cooked on the outside but hard and half raw in the middle. Calling it a “burger” was generous: it was two slightly burnt pieces of toast, a lettuce leaf bigger than the patty, and a flavourless burger sauce. Luckily we found some ketchup. I took the picture while eating, after adding it. Service was good, and the pager was a nice touch. The indoor menu doesn't show vegetarian options, even though they clearly serve them at the outdoor order window.

Jamie, the new manager, looked after us especially well and made us feel very welcome. The team gave excellent service throughout our two nights at the Lugger Inn. We had freshly caught mussels for dinner, drinks and a fantastic breakfast both mornings. Live music on Friday night was a real treat. Our room was lovely, with its own entrance away from the main pub, and it's a great place to stay any time of year. The location makes it easy to catch the ferry to Fowey. Would highly recommend.

A really enjoyable visit to The Lugger Inn in Cornwall. The food was fresh, delicious and nicely presented, with generous portions that felt like good value. Everything seemed carefully prepared, and the place had lovely Christmas decorations 👌
