The food was a real highlight at The George Inn. There weren’t many choices on the menu, but the quality made up for that. I had a juicy, tender burger, a friend enjoyed flavourful chicken fajitas, and another had steak cooked exactly as requested. The staff were friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The beautiful 17th-century building has loads of character and history. It was dark outside, so we couldn’t make out all the details, but the lack of light pollution added to the cosy atmosphere. A charming place with good food and warm hospitality, definitely worth a visit.

The food was amazing, beautifully cooked and presented. We dropped in for lunch just before Christmas '25 and were seated straight away by a wonderfully warm and welcoming host, right in front of a roaring fire. The lovely decorations made it feel special. A great pub any time of year, just opposite the ruined castle. 😁

The pub looks lovely, and the village is really pretty, but that’s where the good part ends. I ordered the Charcuterie Board, listed as meats, cheese, fruit and bread. After more than 40 minutes, I asked about it and found out the ticket had been lost. It wasn’t busy, so I was surprised nobody had noticed we still had no food. Another 15 minutes passed before it came, over an hour in all. The meat and cheese were nice, but there were only two stale rolls, three slices of toast, a handful of raisins for fruit, and a small bit of chutney. The nuts were finely chopped in a bowl, so you’d need a spoon, and we didn’t bother with them. It felt like the kitchen had run out of ingredients and put whatever was left on the board. £18 wasted. We ate half the meat and a couple of small portions of cheese, leaving everything else. I told the waitress it wasn’t good and expected her to ask why, but she just said, ‘oh sorry’ and walked away. I don’t usually leave bad reviews because I don’t like bashing businesses, but the food and service were poor enough that a bad review is entirely fair.

The welcome was lovely, and it’s a dog friendly pub in a great spot. I dropped in for lunch and a drink for the first time. The Wadworth 6X was excellent, and the food and service were just as good. Megan was friendly, quick and helpful. I’ll definitely come back. Thanks so much.

We stopped by yesterday on the off chance of getting a few nibbles. There were four of us from a wedding party, plus a child, and the food was fresh and tasty. The two women looking after us were patient with our jokes and our indecision, and really went out of their way to make us comfortable and accommodate what we needed. It felt wonderfully relaxed for a pub. Thanks, we’ll be back.
