The hut was warm and really cosy, especially once the stove was going, and the bed was very comfortable. It made for a wonderfully peaceful last-minute weekend away from our usual busy lives. Lisa & Graham had thought of everything for an off-the-grid stay, even a phone charger connected to a car battery. There was plenty to see and do nearby, and we'd happily recommend it.

The accommodation and the friendly animals were nice, and Lisa and Graham are lovely people. But the building work made the stay stressful instead of peaceful. From the moment we arrived, builders' lorries and trailers were blocking the entrance. Scaffolding was being put up, and a warning cone marking a dangerous low wall had been removed to make way for the work, which led to damage to our car on arrival. Access was blocked almost every day, with constant noise, shouting workmen, dirt and dust right outside the cottage. They even worked on the cottage we were renting while we were there. We were told another major phase was still to come, including removing and replacing another 40 tonnes of material. Lisa apologised and had personal matters to deal with, including a funeral, but looking back, cancelling would have been the better choice. Lisa joked that we'd get some peace once we left and got home. I'd check the current building work situation before booking.

We had such a good time at Meadowbeck, and hope to come back later this year. The cottages are beautiful, comfy and cosy, and honestly hard to leave for sightseeing. We stayed in one for a whole day, watching the goats, sheep and donkeys playing outside, the birds at the feeders and the sea in the distance. It was lovely being able to buy fresh eggs on site, and the welcome Easter egg and milk were much appreciated. The cottage had everything we needed, especially a great kitchen with all the utensils. Our 15 year old son loved The Scratching Shed and says he'll make one of his own when he's older, though it'll be Leicester City themed, not Leeds Utd. He enjoyed the memorabilia and tickets, and we all got into two or three games of pool each night. There are old school games, retro Pac-Man, darts, full-size table football and drinks in fridges to buy using an honesty box. The owners' home brew cider deserves a mention too, it was great. It's a hidden gem in Whitby's crown, far enough out to enjoy the peace of the Yorkshire countryside while still close to lots of places to explore. We made lots of memories here. Thanks for a lovely break.

We loved our long weekend here, our first stay in a Shepherd Hut. It has everything you need, including a hot, powerful shower, toilet, log burner, cooker and fridge. The views are stunning and the location is great. Lisa and Graham were perfect hosts. We'll definitely be back. 😍

My wife and I have just got back from three nights in the cowslip cottage, and it was a really relaxing break. We loved seeing all the wildlife and farm animals, especially the donkeys, and Lisa and Graham were helpful, easy-going and pleasant. There's a large barn outbuilding set up as a social space, with music, games and drinks for sale at a very reasonable price. The big ManCave and plenty to see all around it made the stay even better. We'll definitely visit again, and I'd recommend the location for a relaxing break.
