Dinner was a real highlight: beautifully presented, full of flavour, and generous portions. The kids’ menu went down well too, and our children said the haddock and chips was some of the best they’d had on the trip. Breakfast was plated and just as high standard. Our room was warm and clean, with super comfortable beds, and the staff kindly provided the cot we asked for. The grounds are very well kept, and the mountain view is breathtaking. An exceptional stay.

A lovely hidden-away spot in the wilderness, and we hope to return soon. We arrived to a warm welcome and goats, after the owner kindly picked us up from the locks while we were travelling up them by boat. The service was perfect and the food was the best we’d had in a while. If you can, make the stop.

We’re a Dutch couple walking the Great Glen and spent one night at the Old Pines Hotel & Restaurant between walks. The magnificent view was lovely, and we really enjoyed the cosy hotel and kind host. Both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant were amazing. We’d love to come back and highly recommend it.

The staff were so friendly and accommodating, and the food was exquisite. It’s a picturesque place, family run and fairly priced. I’d definitely go again.

The accessible rooms and bathrooms worked very well for people with limited mobility, and the beds were good in a lovely setting. There’s an excellent 5 km walk directly opposite, handy for a quick leg stretch if you’re on the way somewhere, though the stile means it isn’t accessible. The menu is limited but interesting, and the food was nicely prepared. Lovely serving staff, and a relaxed pace that fits the slow food movement.
