We enjoyed our Christmas week here, with the Dales nearby and a nice setting. Our accessible room had a wet room shower, which was great, and the small team of staff were all lovely, helpful, and friendly. One night the chef was ill and the restaurant closed, so we had to sort out our own meal. The beds also weren't as good as those at other Premier Inns I've stayed in.

For £80 for two nights in February 2026, this was a pleasant stay, though I probably wouldn't pay more. We ate at the chippy and curry house, both lovely, and the pubs were great too. The restaurant went unused. I'd read reviews a few days before arriving and worried about what I'd booked, since Premier Inn has usually been reliable for us. Check-in was fine, the staff were polite, and registering the car for free parking was no problem. The hotel smelled fine, much better than I expected from the reviews. The corridors were a bit rough and could use a refurb, though I might not have noticed without reading those reviews first. Our newer-style room was clean, warm, and well kept. The bathroom looked a bit tired, probably from lack of ventilation, but there was no sign of mould or damp. Maybe we got lucky with our room.

The bed was clean and comfortable, and the blackout curtains worked really well. Staff were pleasant, though they seemed to be up against it. The chef had left the day before, so there was no hot breakfast. Apparently there are lots of posts about the chef leaving. The hotel had an overwhelming damp, musty, unpleasant smell. It needs to close for redecorating, and the leaking radiators need fixing. The black mould in my shower was vile, the toilet seat had yellow staining around the rim, and the soap containers and bins were dirty and rusty. There were tea stains on the bathroom surfaces and old stains on the information booklets. All night, there was constant noise from the cleaning room next to mine. They need to get the shower and its surrounds properly cleaned, dry them, treat the wood, and clean and repaint the wooden skirting boards. This is basic stuff. Surely a village handyman could tidy the place up and paint the outside. It's tired, mouldy, and dirty. Never again!

The morning after we arrived, Anya gave me a lovely note and a packet of biscuits when she heard we were there for a funeral. It was such a thoughtful, caring gesture 💖. We'd travelled up from Surrey during the storm and were late getting to the hotel, so I called to ask if dinner was still possible. Anya checked with the chef, since they were closing early because of the weather, then rang back to say the chef would prepare our choices for when we arrived. He did. That's customer service 😄! Sometimes the people working there matter more than the rooms and other details. I book a lot of hotels, especially Premier Inns, and don't always get positive feedback from my engineers. Thank you, Anya. You're a credit to the hotel, and so is your chef 😄!

The staff were very friendly and efficient, and the location works perfectly for exploring Yorkshire and the North, depending how far you want to go. We didn't eat at the pub next door because there were other places to choose from. The week was really good value at the lower price. We've stayed at many Premier Inns around the country, and this one is quite dated. It seems a long time since it was updated, and a refit would help. There are no modern fittings, such as USB sockets, and the clean bathrooms also need refurbishment. We'd stay again.
