The bedding was my one small reservation. The bed was excellent, but the pillows and synthetic-feeling covers got warm quickly, so natural fibres might suit the rooms better. The rooms themselves have a lovely boutique feel and made for a comfortable stay. All the staff were great, especially Jess, I think that was her name from the other reviews. She was engaging, polished, full of personality, and a perfect host. I’m surprised a 5-star place hasn’t snapped her up for front-of-house. She’d be an asset anywhere people-facing.

There was a slight BO smell when I first walked into my room, which put me off a bit. Aside from that, everything was clean and comfortable, the room was warm and cosy on my late-December one-night stay, and the staff were pleasant. I skipped dinner at the restaurant, but the included breakfast was lovely and filling, with lots of hot options to order.

Jess was such a star. Her humour and friendly, funny approach to customer service made us feel really looked after. She kept things running smoothly and made the meal and stay much more enjoyable.

The sticky toffee pudding was delicious, and we really enjoyed the Sunday roast. Our waitress Sophie was amazing and kept making us laugh through the meal. The food was great.
