We’ve had dinner at The Stapleton Arms about six or seven times now, and it’s been wonderful every time. The staff are always great, and the menu has a nice balance of English pub favourites and more modern dishes. They use lots of fresh local produce, and it’s always cooked really well. See you soon!

The staff were still very helpful and friendly, but the meal was a letdown compared with our earlier visits, when the food and service had been excellent. We came as a family for Mother’s Day Sunday lunch and waited about 40 minutes for starters. The bread was quite stale, and the small prawn cocktail was watery and didn’t taste very good. Our Sunday lunches had similar problems: a few mains weren’t very warm, and the Yorkshire puddings were dry. It’s a shame, and it feels like something has changed.

The lamb pie was great, my husband’s burger and chips were pretty good, and we both enjoyed the ice cream. The service was nice enough too. But the bread we paid a fiver for was a real disappointment, basically stale sandwich bread. It made us question the rest of the meal, which was much better. That bread shouldn’t be on the menu.

We just stopped by for a couple of drinks with friends and had a lovely time. The governor was really personable and took time to chat with us. What we saw coming out of the kitchen looked first class, so we’ll probably come back to eat next time. Definitely recommended.

Really good Sunday lunch, with the best staff and atmosphere around here. The reviewer below was sitting at the next table and seemed completely unreasonable, either having a bad day or looking for a free lunch, which he got. This pub deserves better customers than that.
