Oakley View Shepherds Huts

We had a lovely couple of nights in this cosy shepherd's hut. The hot tub was warmed up for us, and we also enjoyed the log burner and the excellent views. It's peaceful here, and a great base for the North Yorkshire moors and coastal towns like Whitby, Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The host has put so much care into making a stay feel special.

It’s quiet and tucked away, with beautiful views over nearby farmland, but you can still walk to a village pub that does a great pie. The bed was very comfortable, and it stayed warm inside even without the fire. Before we arrived, the host sent plenty of useful directions and information, and was happy to show us how everything worked. We found snacks, bubbles, tea, coffee, milk and breakfast things like granola and muesli waiting. You could turn up with very little and still have what you need. In colder weather, the fire may already be lit for you. There are detailed handwritten notes for the hot tub, TV and checkout, among other things, so it's clear what to do with towels and bedding and how to use everything. Thanks, Alex, for a wonderful stay. I think we’ll be back.

We came for the Goth festival and found our hut was out of this world. You can tell a lot of care and thought went into making it feel luxurious, and it had everything we could want, plus more. It was warm and comfortable, with a wonderful bed. We both had the best night's sleep. A huge thank you to the owner, who I think is called Alex. We'd recommend it 100%.

We wanted somewhere completely out in the sticks where we couldn't hear a sound, and this beautiful place was just right. The host had thought of everything, and the bed was so comfortable, which is usually what we complain about. The birthday setup went above and beyond, with a complimentary bottle of wine. My one very picky comment is that a path to the hut would help. It's wet and muddy, and I can imagine it being hard to keep the mud out, especially with dogs. We'll definitely return.
