The hotel looks a little worn, and some building work was going on, though we heard no noise and saw no mess in the shared areas. It was quiet during our midweek stay. We had dinner in the cosy restaurant, and the meal was nice. Our room was comfortable and had what we needed, so it made for a pleasant overnight break.

The view from our comfortable, very clean room was beautiful, and the beds and pillows were especially comfortable. Breakfast had a great range, from well-cooked favourites and fresh seasonal fruit to cereals, toast and good-quality yoghurts. The cheerful staff were happy to help with anything at this family-run hotel, set in a lovely, peaceful spot. Luxury, lovely people, and a magnificent breakfast. I’d happily recommend The Wild Boar.

The food was good and reasonably priced, and the staff were quick and kind. It’s a very nice building, though the dining area is quite small. We went at 7:30 on a Saturday and the place was almost empty, which put us off a bit. Nothing else was particularly wrong with the meal, but the lack of other diners did affect the experience.

We stayed for three nights. Our room was in the newest extension, with plenty of space and a clean, decent bathroom. The staff were all chatty and engaging, and breakfast was very good, served by pleasant staff. Some of the decor could use more attention to detail.

The bed was really uncomfortable, and the bathroom first smelled of air freshener, then later of urine. The place feels tired and shabby, and the bar reminded me of a care home. Breakfast was basic. I asked for decaf coffee and was told they didn’t have any, and that the coffee was instant anyway. I wasn’t impressed and wouldn’t recommend it or go back.
